On Feb. 27, 1921, in Tahlequah, David and Emma (Whitehouse) Watkins, welcomed Stella into their family.  At eleven years old, when her mother passed away, Stella moved to Claremore to live with her aunt.  When Stella and Orven E. Self met, she knew immediately that she would marry him someday.  On May 3, 1937, Stella’s prediction was brought about as they were married in a Claremore ceremony.

The young couple made their home in Claremore and raised their four children here.  Stella took the art of homemaking to a new level; not only did she cook and sew, she made her daughters’ clothes with homemade patterns cut from newspaper.  She quilted, gardened and canned and made the most delicious yeast rolls for her family.  Whether chasing cows or chasing kids/grandkids, she worked hard, taking great care of those she loved.

Beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Stella is survived by her children, Louie Self and wife, Sandra,  Marjorie Talbert and husband, Al, all of Claremore, Jo Trotter of Taylorsville, Ga., and Vera Thompson and husband, Preston, also of Claremore; her grandchildren, Mike Self and wife, Libby, of Claremore, Brent Self and wife, Meredith, of Stillwater, Donnie Talbert and wife, Carrie, of Edmond, Dale Talbert and wife, Kim, of Montgomery, Texas, Brenda McClurg and husband, Mark, of Claremore, Terry Moss of Claremore, Tonya Jordan and husband, Mike, of Claremore, Jim Andrews and wife, Dawnee, of Centerville, Ga., Lyle Thompson and wife, Brandy, of Claremore, Kassie Kirby and husband, Steve, of Claremore, Steve Shrum and wife, Danna of Pryor and Brian Shrum and wife, Tanja, of Claremore; 33 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and one sister.
