CLAREMORE —
Bob Roden loved his family, fancy boots, cowboy hats, rodeo, good horses, flashy cars and his trademark cigar.
A resident of Claremore more than half his life as a banker and community contributor, he died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013 at the age of 82 after a long illness.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday in the Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service Chapel.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Will Rogers Memorial Foundation to help support a place close to his heart and honoring his friendship with the Rogers’ family. Donations may be sent to Will Rogers Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 2606, Claremore, OK 74018.
Surviving Roden are his wife, Mary Lee; son, Rodne and Joyce of Claremore; grandchildren, Rodne II (Boots) and Julie of Kingston, and Kassie Sallis and Jaylee of Muskogee; and great-grandchildren, Rodrick Ryder Roden of Kingston and Samantha Brackett of Muskogee.
Bobby Carl Roden was born July 5, 1930 in Waurika and graduated from Duncan High School. He and Mary Lee Jinks were married March 11, 1955 in Rush Springs, where they made this home and he worked as a car dealer.
They moved to Marlow where he started his banking career as a loan officer. He came to Claremore in 1966 to work for First National Bank as a loan officer.
Roden, Jack Marshall and John Carle purchased the bank, which became First Bank. Roden was president until it was sold to Bank of Oklahoma and he was named chairman of the board of the Claremore branch.
Roden was involved in other business interests, including the Men’s Shop in Ne-Mar Center and Mercedes Boot Company and T.O. Stanley Boot Company in El Paso, Texas.
His life was devoted to contributions to leadership in virtually every aspect of the Claremore business, community and fund-raising efforts.
He was Claremore Chamber of Commerce board chairman and honored in 1968 as Claremore Citizen of the Year. He was a Will Rogers Roundup Club member and served as rodeo chairman.
He was involved in the Work Training Center and Rotary Club and was a 32nd Degree Mason, McAlester Lodge, and a Shriner.
