Nella Alexander

CLAREMORE — Services for Nella Alexander will be 10 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 23, 2013 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 from 1- 7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m.

Nella passed away on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013.

Born in Japton, Arkansas on June 4, 1920 to George and Allie (Harvey) Kirk.  Nella was reared and educated in Choteau, OK and graduated from Choteau High School.  After graduation Nella began her lifetime career as a homemaker raising her five children.  She was always involved in all her children’s activities, and also those of her grandchildren as well as her great grandchildren.  Referred to by her family as a person who was always “Ready to Go.”  The lack of a driver’s license never seemed to slow her down, although in her 50’s, she received her learner’s permit for the very first time but quickly realized she much more enjoyed her family and friends chauffeuring her from place to place.

Throughout her life, Nella found great enjoyment in a variety of ways…….Bingo, cooking, which according to her family was always done by “scratch.”  Because of Nella’s great fashion sense she always had plenty of the latest designer shoes and clothes often sharing and giving them away to her grandchildren.  Nella had an ability to exercise frugalness in all of her financial matters and was an extreme giver because she wanted others to have whatever she could give them.  She was also an avid walker even at the age of 85, often walking 3-5 miles per day.

This mother, grandmother, sister and friend will be missed by all who knew her.  Nella is survived by her children Barbara Wilburn and husband Ray of Tulsa; Jerry Alexander and wife Kathy of Foyil; Dianne Dunahay and husband Jerry, and Sherry Alexander all of Claremore;  daughter in law Barbara Alexander of Claremore; grandchildren Rhett and Rodney Wilburn, Amber Spencer, Jennifer Bible and husband Chad, Sean Dunahay and wife Nena, Brandy Cottingim and husband Jimbob, Shane Messimore and wife Edwina, Jeremy Alexander and wife Rachel, Brandon, Jared, Megan and Melissa Alexander, Michele Dudley and husband Randy and 17 great grandchildren;  sisters Jeanne Hassinger and Wanda Wilburn and husband Johnny; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Nella was preceded in death by her sons Mike and Charles Leroy Alexander, three sisters and three brothers.
