Ila May Whinery

CLAREMORE — A graveside memorial service for Ila May Whinery will be Thursday, Jan., 17, 2013 at Okmulgee Cemetery in Okmulgee, Okla. under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.  

Ila May passed away on Friday, Jan., 11, 2013. She was 91.

Born May 24, 1921 in Stigler, Okla., to Elmer and Rosa (Johnson) Lantz, Ila May was reared and educated in her birth community, graduating from Stigler High School.  After graduation Ila May enjoyed a long work career, making her first job at the local bus station in Okmulgee and McAlester which was owned by W.D. Nigh.  She then began a career in retail sales at Gibson’s and Howard’s Discount Center.

When Ila May wasn’t busy at work, it was apparent that her family and her love of being around people took priority.  Fishing was a legacy that she taught her family, and still a sport continued by both of her sons today.  She had a passion for reading and always provided the “Little Golden Books” to her grandchildren, encouraging them to read.  Ila May demonstrated her love for others by working at Foster’s Flower Shop during the holidays and always taking care of the kids on the Joy Bus at church.  Although she was not known for her cooking skills, Ila May popped the best popcorn for the senior center and peeled perfect potatoes in the nursing home kitchen.

This loving mother, grandmother and friend will be missed by all those lives she touched.  Those that survive are her sons; Jack Whinery and wife Candace, Larry Whinery and wife Frances; grandchildren, John Whinery and wife Ann, Chris Whinery and wife Michelle, and Dan Whinery; great grandchildren, Kameron, Harper, Jennifer and Jordon; brother, Cecil Lantz and numerous nieces and nephews. Ila May is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers, two nieces and one nephew.

    A celebration of the life of Dale F. Bruer will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 17 at First Baptist Church in Claremore. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-5 p.m. on Sunday with family receiving visitors from 3-5. Dale passed away on June 13, 2013. He was 80 years old.

    Graveside service for Ronald “Mark” Reich will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Timpson Chapel Cemetery, White Oak. Burial will follow under the direction of the Inola Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.

    Services for Alice Faye Johns will be Friday, June 14, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Washington Cemetery. Family will receive visitors from 5-7 on Thursday evening at the Funeral Home.  Alice passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2013. She was 66.

Friends may visit at the funeral home on Fri., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. before the service.  Mary passed away on Tues., June 11, 2013. She was 61.

    A celebration of the life of Larry Charles Sang, Sr., will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 14 at Rice Funeral Service, 631 East Will Rogers Boulevard, Claremore, OK 74017.  His son, Larry Sang Jr. will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 13 at the funeral home.  Family members will be there from 5-7 p.m.

    Jerry passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013, at St. John Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 61.
