William Donald “Don” Lewis

Claremore, OK — A graveside service for William Donald “Don” Lewis will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Wards Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday afternoon. Don passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010. He was 71.

A farm boy, Don was born in the Good Hope community, near Foyil, on July 7, 1938 to George Winer and Elsie Lee (Smith) Lewis. He received his education there, graduating with the Foyil High School Class of 1956. After four years of military service, one year of which was spent in Germany, Don returned to the Foyil area and began his electrical lineman apprenticeship. His skill as a lineman brought him employment both locally and across the country.

In 1963, Don and Waukomis “Louise” Chupco married and Don became the proud father of three children with whom he enjoyed a close and lasting bond. His early years on the farm made a deep impression and throughout his life Don enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and some hunting. Fun, outgoing and intelligent, Don’s social life was full for most of his life. H e was also an avid reader. Health challenges in the mid 80’s led to retirement which allowed Don more time for the things he loved, family, friends, fishing and good books.

Wonderful father, grandfather, brother and dear friend, Don is survived by his children, Gary Lewis and Sandra Lewis, both of Claremore; grandchildren, Amanda, Joey, Chebon, Paul and Summer; two great grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth Lewis of Bushyhead and Dollie Carriger of Claremore; sisters-in-law, Ruby Lea Lewis and Linda Lewis; and numerous much-loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elsie Lewis, his son, Michael “Mike” Wayne Lewis, siblings Joe, Jack and Jim Lewis and an infant sister.
