Bessie Louise Jones

CLAREMORE — A celebration of the life of long-time Claremore resident, Bessie Louise Jones, will be 10:00 a.m., Wed., July 11, 2012 at Memorial Heights Baptist Church.  Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, Okla. Bessie passed away Saturday, July 7. She was 87 years old.

Raised in Treece, Kan., Bessie and her family moved to Picher, Okla. when Bessie was beginning the ninth grade and she graduated from Picher High School, where she met Harold Jones and the couple married on Sept. 4, 1944 in Miami, Okla.  

Two days after their wedding Harold left to serve his Country and Bessie wasn't far behind.  She made her way to San Diego, Calif. on a Greyhound bus.  When she arrived she found a way to support the war effort as well, becoming part of the group  identified as "Rosie the Riveter."  After the War Bessie began her life-long career in a position she loved, that of homemaker.  Her family, which included two children, was her first priority.  She loved yardwork and was able to maintain her independence until most recently with the help of special neighbors, Bob and Doris Finical.  

An active member of Memorial Heights Baptist Church, Bessie was blessed to have a church family that she loved spending time with, particularly the many trips organized by her good friend, Ray Teakell.  She had a huge heart for animals.

A loving mother, grandma and friend, Bessie will be missed by all who knew her.  She is survived by her daughters, Susie Harner and  Nancy Hoodenpyle, both of Claremore; grandchildren, Geri Wheaton and husband, Rick, of Broken Arrow, Stephanie Shults, B. J. Hoodenpyle and Kerry Banzet and husband Justin all of Claremore, Michael Harner and wife, Andrea of Owasso; great grandchildren, Cole, Madalyn, Blake, Hank, and Ty.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 45 years, Harold Jones.

    A celebration of the life of Dale F. Bruer will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 17 at First Baptist Church in Claremore. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-5 p.m. on Sunday with family receiving visitors from 3-5. Dale passed away on June 13, 2013. He was 80 years old.

    Jerry passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013, at St. John Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 61.
