Eunice Miller Hardesty

CLAREMORE — A memorial service for Eunice Hardesty will be held at Hilldale Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 2-7 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving visitors from 5-7 p.m.

Eunice passed away Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 at the age of 90.

Born in Oktaha, Okla. on October 4, 1922, the only child of Paul and Clema May (Collins) Miller, Eunice graduated from high school in her birth community before attending business school in Tulsa. She worked for a time as a bookkeeper for Keating Drilling. It was during her later employment as an interpreter for the deaf at McDonnell Douglas that Eunice met Sherman A. Hardesty.  The couple married on April 19, 1947 in Independence, Kansas and became the parents of four children.  In 1962 the family moved to Claremore and the Keatonville area has been home through the years.

In November of 1977 Mr. Hardesty passed away and Eunice brushed off her bookkeeping skills and took a job with C-E Natco as a payroll clerk. She worked hard but was equally active in church and community service.  She was actively involved with the Homemakers Extensions and was busy during vacation Bible School making sure the attendees were well-fed and happy.  She also volunteered her time as a teacher’s aide at her grandson, Richard’s school.  She enjoyed travel, particularly trips to Michigan to visit her grandson, Christopher.

Beloved mother and “Granny” to her grandchildren, Eunice is survived by her children, Ann and Dr. Gary Silker, of Lake, MI, Mary Sharon Hardesty, Sandra Jo Hardesty and Teresa J. Hardesty, all of Claremore, Neal Hardesty and wife, Brenda, of Collinsville, Christopher Silker and wife, Kelly, of Holt, MI, and 1st Lt. Richard Nezat and wife, Danielle of Edmond, Okla.; and  her beloved canine companions, “the boys,”  Max and Daisy.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Sherman.
