A four-legged deputy aided Rogers County law officers in Catoosa last week in the apprehension of a Checotah man wanted on felony charge.
Jeremy Bryant Herndon, 27, was arrested Wednesday on four complaints of Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS), as well as obstruction of officer.
According to reports from the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office, deputy Tanner Hill last week received information that Herndon — wanted on felony and misdemeanor charges in Tulsa and McIntosh counties, respectively — could be located at a residence near the Catoosa area.
Deputy Hill, with Deputy Adam Hull and his K-9 partner, “Deputy Sandy,” went to the residence and were told he had escaped from the back of the home when he saw the patrol vehicles approaching.
Deputy Hull, with Sandy, then began to track Herndon, but lost his scent after 150 yards into the woods.
Upon returning back to the residence, Sandy “hit” on a vehicle there, believed to belong to Herndon.
Upon a search of the vehicle, deputies located large quantities of prescription narcotics, including Methadone, Oxycodone, Clonazepam and Hydrocodone. Deputies also located ammunition for a small caliber gun.
After clearing the area, deputies received further information that Herndon had returned and, with OHP Troopers, returned to the scene.
According to reports, upon seeing “Deputy Sandy,” Hernon surrendered to the canine officer, without injury or further incident.
“We weren’t going to take any chances,” Deputy Hull said in the Sheriff’s report. “We had information that he might be carrying a gun, so he made the right decision — surrendering to Sandy. Had he run again, I would have released the dog.
Herndon was arrested and book into the Rogers County Jail on complaints of Possession of CDS (four counts), and obstruction and officer, in addition to the original warrants on him in Tulsa County and Mcintosh County.
