By Ryan Bradley, RSU Sports Information

Tuesday Feb. 9, 2010 — Rogers State first baseman Rob Rodriguez opened the 2010 baseball season with a bang and was named the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday.

The senior from Bronx, N.Y., belted two doubles and a two-run homer to lead the Hillcats to an Opening Day sweep over Kansas Wesleyan Saturday at the Hillcat Complex.

Rodriguez went 4-for-6 during the twin bill and finished with five RBI and one stolen base.

He is the first RSU baseball player to earn a SAC weekly award since Zach Hamby received the nod on March 24, 2009.

Rodriguez started 45 games in his first season with the Hillcats in 2009. He finished second on the club with nine home runs and 41 RBI. Rodriguez was named a second-team All-American after leading Western Oklahoma State to the Division II JUCO World Series as a sophomore in 2008.

Rogers State (2-0) returns to action this weekend at the Hillcat Complex in Claremore. The Diamond Cats will host Benedictine College in a four-game series Saturday and Sunday with the first pitch slated for noon each day.
