STILL SEARCHING: Officials looking for those involved in shooting of miniature horse

CLAREMORE — The body of a dead miniature horse was discovered around 9 p.m. Dec. 27 on the side of 380 Road near Oologah.

Deputies were dispatched after a motorist reported the horse lying partially in a ditch and partially in the road near the Washington County line, said Sheriff Scott Walton.
Upon arrival, Rogers County deputies determined the horse suffered a gun shot wound.
“The horse was found on its left side with what appeared to be a through and through bullet wound above the front shoulder, close to the spine,” said Deputy Jerry Smittle. “Deputies noticed the wound above the shoulder to be oozing blood.”
Smittle said Lt. Robert Norman and himself searched the area for any signs of blood or bullet casings but none were found.
After investigation, the animal was taken to the District Two barn and placed in a secure spot.
Information related to the horse’s owner and whether or not this was an act of animal cruelty has not yet been determined.
Anyone with information regarding the incident can call the Rogers County Sheriff’s Tipline at (918) 341-3620.
