A Rogers County 4-H’er received the highest honor a 4-H’er can achieve at the state level when he was inducted into the State 4-H Hall of Fame.
Charles Maloy was honored during the Honor Night Assembly that took place during the 89th State 4-H Roundup at Oklahoma State University.
“Being inducted into the State 4-H Hall of Fame positions me to impact more youth in a positive way and show many others what 4-H can do in their lives,” he said.
In addition to achieving this award, Maloy was awarded the Harold and Jeanne Gibson Memorial Scholarship. This $1,000 award is sponsored by the Harold P. and Jeanne Gibson Endowment. He also was elected to serve as president of the state 4-H leadership council.
An active 4-H’er for nine years, Maloy is a member of the Circle G 4-H Club where his main project area is leadership. He has taken what he has learned about leadership to heart and has served in leadership roles including state leadership council, State 4-H Ambassador, district secretary and county president. During the course of his 4-H career, Maloy has reached more than 13,000 people through public speaking, leadership and citizenship activities.
“From leadership to public speaking to socializing, I use skills that 4-H has taught me every single day,” Maloy said. Some of his 4-H activities and honors include Rogers County Hall of Fame, Citizenship Washington Focus delegate and state record book winner. He also is involved in the Oklahoma 4-H Operation: Military Kids program.
“It’s very rewarding to work with these kids whose parents are deployed,” he said.
Maloy does have some advice for those youth across Oklahoma who are just starting out in the 4-H program.
“Don’t be afraid to take chances,” he said. “The first step on any journey is difficult, but the reward at the end is great.”
He is a 2010 graduate of Owasso High School and is attending Oklahoma State University this fall. He is the son of John and Cindy Maloy.
