Inola council tables hiring of town administrator

Monday, Jan. 18, 2010 — No decision has been made on the hiring of a part-time Town Administrator, as Inola City Council members tabled a decision at their recent meeting.

Coming out of Executive Session discussions, Council members said they’d decided to weigh whether or not to call any of those who had applied for the position, with plans to interview the candidate at the next Council meeting.

Applicants were Mary Ogle of Claremore, Mark Terrill of Inola, Jim M. Blasing, giving his residence as Colorado, Don Arehartof Skiatook, Spencer Shamas of Coweta, and Raylin Carter of Ponca City.

This position was advertised in the Inola Independent and the Claremore Progress and Dec. 28 was to be the last day to submit applications.

It has been learned that later Cheryl Charles, Inola Mayor, has also submitted her application. The salary is still up for discussion.

In the Executive Session it was also approved to grant Jason Bannister, maintenance employee, a salary hike of .50 per hour, to $8.50 hourly. John Deboer, Street and Parks Commissioner, made the recommendation.

In other business, the Board moved to:

• Grant permission of the police department to sell or dispose of an emergency light bar

• Reappoint Kenny Weast to the Grand Gateway Board of Directors for the year 2010.



Inola resident Jeremy Flanigan addressed the council, regarding complaints made against him by a neighbor of him operating a business out of his home.

He also said he’d been issued a citation for a parked vehicle on his property and that there were others of a similar type in close vicinity of his property. He wanted to check the code ordinance for this reading and was told that he could come to City Hall and look at the code and/or get a copy.

Flanigan’s landlord, Donnie Forest, was also present, and said he’d parked vehicles on this property and never given a citation. The Mayor said they could not overturn the citation and that he would have to come to the next City Court meeting and discuss this with Judge Harrell.
