Broken water main causes Inola school closings

INOLA — The Inola School District cancelled classes just before 10 a.m. Tuesday morning due to a water main break on D Street NE. Superintendent Dr. Kent Holbrook sent out an all call to students’ parents informing them of the issue.

Because of the short notice, some students had to stay at school.

“Unfortunately buses had already left for their routes and it was too late to call them back,” said Holbrook. “We never send students home on the buses without contacting their parents first.”

Holbrook said with 1,350 students unable to use the restroom or wash their hands, it becomes unsanitary.

“We had to cancel school.”

Inola city officials said the water main was repaired just before 11 a.m.

Classes are expected to resume as normal on Wednesday.
