By Krystal J. Carman

December 23, 2009 — The now former mayor of Chelsea was arrested for driving under the influence last Thursday.

Carl Carmack was arrested following an accident on Highway 66 in Chelsea. Carmack was at fault when he turned left into a Chelsea business and hit a car, injuring the occupants.

Carmack was given a breathalyzer test, which showed he was over the legal limit of .08. He was booked into the Rogers County Jail on charges of DUI and released on bail Friday.

After his release, Carmack resigned from his position as town mayor and gave this statement:

“It is with deepest regret that I am resigning my position as mayor for the Town of Chelsea. It has been a wonderful experience for me. I am also issuing an apology for the recent events that have occurred involving myself and offer my deepest apologies to the citizens of Chelsea and all of Rogers County. I hope the citizens of Chelsea will continue to come together as a community and strive to make our town a better place for our children to grow and be proud of.”

Carmack is set to appear in Rogers County District Court on Jan. 6. Formal charges have not been filed.
