More Share the Spirit help needed — and quickly

By Rebecca Hattaway

December 8, 2009 — With just over one week left in the annual Share the Spirit fundraising campaign, a little more than $19,170 still needs to be raised to provide Christmas food baskets to nearly 1000 Rogers County individuals and families.

More people have applied for baskets with the Department of Human Services this year than any other time in the history of Share the Spirit.

To meet the need, an aggressive $25,000 goal was set, and once again, Rogers County residents are generously doing their part to help our neighbors in need this holiday season.

But additional help is critical — and time is quickly running out.

On Thursday, Rogers State University basketball fans will have the opportunity to receive $1 off the price of admission when they bring a canned food item to the men’s and women’s games at Claremore Expo. The Hillcats will host John Brown University at 6 and 8 p.m.

Tax-deductible donations for Share the Spirt will be accepted through Thursday, Dec. 18 at the Progress office or by mail at P.O. Box 248, Claremore, OK 74017.

All donations are used to purchase food and all food goes to Rogers County families. Canned goods are also being collected at the Progress office.

Donor names will be listed unless anonymity is requested. Recent donors include William and Jimmie Allton, Dr. C.K. and June Doran, Nora Egleston, Sharon Egleston, William Hurd, John Lingenfelter, Jo Ann Tanner, Oleta Corley, Billie Malone, Jean Moore, Patricia Pixley, Lorraine Garrison, Frances Pranger, Mark and Shana Janzen, James and Barbara Farley, Wilfred Lee, Rex and Dana Crumpton, Patricia Ferguson, Mary Lee and Jack Spinks, John and Phyllis Philpot, Joe and Barbara Treadway, and R. and B. Moonen.
