December 3, 2009 — Fourteen board seats within Rogers County school districts will be up for election in February and candidates will begin filing for those seats on Monday.
Rogers County Election Board Secretary Rebecca Dealy said candidates wanting to run for election for the school boards will file next Monday through Wednesday at 5 p.m. The election will be held Feb. 9.
Candidates running for election must receive 50 percent of the total votes cast to win the board seat. In a case where no candidate receives 50 percent, the two candidates with the highest number of votes will meet in a run-off on April 6.
The following Rogers County school board seats are up for election:
•Sequoyah School District — 5 year term, Office 5
•Inola School District — 5 year term, Office 5
•Justus-Tiawah School District — 3 year term, Office 2
•Foyil School District — 5 year term, Office 5
•Chelsea School District — 5 year term, Office 5; 3 year term, Office 3; 2 year term, Office 2
•Verdigris School District — 5 year term, Office 5
•Claremore School District — 5 year term, Office 5; 3 year term, Office 3
•Catoosa School District — 5 year term, Office 5; 4 year term, Office 4
•Oologah-Talala School District — 5 year term, Office 5
•Northeast Technology Center — Unexpired term, Board Zone 3
In addition to board positions up for election at Rogers County schools, seats with the Collinsville, Chouteau-Mazie and Owasso school districts and Tulsa Technology Center will also be voted on. According to the Election Board, a portion of each of these districts lies in Rogers County.
Candidates in each school district race will file declarations at the Rogers County Election Board office at 415 W. 1st Street in Claremore.
