Rogers County convict dies in prison

CLAREMORE — A Rogers County man who was sentenced to death for the 1996 murder of a Broken Arrow woman has died at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester.

According to a news release issued from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, security personnel at the penitentiary noticed Myers to be “unresponsive” in the facility’s medical unit on Friday, Dec. 28.

The same security personnel then notified medical staff, who attended Myers, but he was pronounced dead a short time thereafter.

Myers, 64, was convicted of killing Cindy Marzano of Broken Arrow in March of 1996.

He had been on death row since his 1998 conviction.

Court records show Myers had served time in Oklahoma and Kansas for burglary, assault and rape before he was convicted in Rogers County of first degree murder.

At the time, the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office connected Myers with the rape and murder of another woman, Shawn Williams, in April 1993, whose body — as was Marzano’s — had been dumped in the Verdigris River.

The Department of Corrections official statement is that it believes Myers died of natural causes.
