CLAREMORE — Rogers State University has been named among the Best Regional Colleges in the West by U.S. News and World Report.

The magazine recently released its “Best Colleges 2011” guide, ranking the nation’s best colleges and universities.

“RSU has always been recognized for its academic quality in Oklahoma and we are pleased to receive this national recognition,” said RSU President Dr. Larry Rice.

RSU was ranked in the second tier for regional colleges in the west, along with other institutions in 15 western states.

RSU also was listed among the best colleges in the U.S. with the most students older than the age of 25, with 36 percent of its students falling into that category.

U.S. News and World Report used a variety of criteria to determine the rankings, including the institution’s academic reputation, based on peer assessment surveys. Other criteria include graduation rates, freshmen retention rates, class sizes, faculty resources, student test scores, financial resources and alumni giving rates.

The magazine releases its “Best Colleges” guide each year as a resource for students and their parents in selecting a college or university.

RSU is a public regional university serving more than 4,300 students on campuses in Claremore, Bartlesville, and Pryor, and through its online program. RSU offers bachelor’s and associate degrees in a wide variety of disciplines, including arts and sciences, business and technology, and health sciences. RSU is the only public university in the Tulsa metropolitan area where students can live on campus, offering apartments for students on the main campus in Claremore. The university also offers an honors program, study abroad and a broad array of student activity and support programs.
