CLAREMORE —
Residents of Rogers County awoke to a thin blanket of snow today.
Not exactly the three to four inches predicted by local weather reports, but with near two inches enough to have area schools closed for the day.
Almost all Rogers County schools took the day off with the exception of Owasso Public Schools. This is the first official snow day of the 2011-12 school year and some students do not mind the wintery vacation.
A few students from Westside elementary took the opportunity to play at the Will Rogers Memorial despite the wet thin snow.
Drivers were out as many made the commute to work this morning and salt trucks made their way around town to help road conditions.
Area residents should continue to use caution today on roadways, as they are wet and slippery in some spots, according to officials.
The Claremore Police Department has responded to a few accidents today due to weather conditions.
As always drivers are reminded to slow down in inclement weather and if assistance is needed call 911 or for non-emergencies call (918) 341-1212.
