City to consider Sludge Tech contract

CLAREMORE — Claremore City Council members will soon consider  approving a bid from Sludge Technology to remove and dispose of sludge at the City’s water treatment plant (WTP).

“In March, the City received a consent order from the ODEQ due to excessive Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and Manganese (Mn) in the discharge of the water treatment plant sludge ponds,” said Cassie Woods, marketing director, City of Claremore. “This consent order required the City to begin removal of the sludge/residuals by Jan. 1, 2011, and to be completely finished by no later than Oct. 1, 2011.”

After soliciting bids on the project, the City received a responsible bid in the base amount of $228,000 — less than the City engineer’s $330,000 estimate — from Muskogee-based Sludge Technology.

“ST showed they had sufficient experience in conversions with ODEQ, and we received good feedback from them, so we’ve slated formal approval of contracting with them on the next (Council) agenda,” Woods said.

If approved, the contract with Sludge Technology to remove and dispose of the sludge at the WTP backwash ponds and Claremore Lake would go into effect immediately.
