State Sen. Sean Burrage has been singled out by Oklahoma State School Board Association (OSSBA) for their 2010 Legislative award.
Burrage, D-Claremore, was selected for the honor in recognition of his efforts in the State Senate on behalf of public education and OSSBA.
“Public Education is an integral part of our overall efforts to continue moving Oklahoma forward. The better educated our children are, the better equipped they will be to compete and succeed throughout their lives,” Burrage said. “I’m proud to support initiatives that help us renew and improve our policies and practices to achieve the best results possible in our public schools.”
Burrage pointed out that Oklahoma has consistently achieved national acclaim for its early childhood education programs and for the states standards for teacher preparedness.
“Right now our energies must continue to focus on ways to ensure more of our students are working at or exceeding grade level in crucial areas such as reading, math and science, then continue to build on those skills by encouraging them to take on the rigorous curriculum that is so critical to their future educational and career aspirations,” Burrage said. “That will give us the strong foundation we need in order to improve our high school graduation rates and encourage greater pursuit of post-secondary education. This is the key to helping more Oklahomans reach their full potential and helping increase wealth and opportunity throughout our state.”
