Buchanan formally charged with 4 rape counts

CLAREMORE — Former Claremore Sequoyah music teacher Mark Thomas Buchanan, 34, was formally charged Tuesday with four counts of second degree rape, two counts of sodomy, victim under 16 years of age and one count of indecent exposure.

The offense dates began in Jan. 2012 and with the most recent offense being on July 9.
Buchanan was arrested July 9 and is currently being held in the Rogers County Jail.
Buchanan’s wife reported his sexual relationship with a 14-year-old female victim to the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office leading to his arrest.
Originally, the Rogers County Sheriff’s office reported 18 different charges. 
Buchanan’s employment with Sequoyah was suspended after his arrest. 
Buchanan appeared before Judge Terrell Crowson and the state requested more time to file its case, according to court documents. 
Crowson had set Buchanan’s initial appearance on Wednesday, before Judge Dwayne Steidley.
