Dental service for inmates OK'd
October 8, 2008 — Rogers County Commissioners approved a contract that will bring dental services to county prisoners.
Todd Barron, medical officer for Rogers County Jail, says the dental plan will save dollars and increase security for the sheriff’s department. Barron reported that Correctional Dental Services of Dallas would supply in-house dental treatment to inmates under a contract approved by commissioners on Monday.
“This is a private dental service that will come in-house and treat our inmates so we don’t have to take them out of the facility,” Barron said.
Keeping inmates within the facility decreases security risks, Barron said.
District 1 County Commissioner Dan DeLozier acknowledged on Monday financial assistance from the Cherokee Nation to help with asphalt overlay of roads in Foyil.
“I applied for the grant to cover the cost of the roads. They allowed $149,556 to help,” said DeLozier.
The total cost of asphalt overlay in Foyil came to $175,359. DeLozier said the asphalt was laid in August.
“We did the entire town except for old Highway 66 that runs through the center of town.”
In other county business, a bid for the sale and removal of fuel tanks was not awarded. Alcorn Service Co. agreed to remove tanks and scrap the metal at a charge of $5,000 to the county.
Commissioners voted to investigate whether they could surplus the tanks and allow someone to remove them without charge.
