June 13, 2009 — Once again, Claremore Daily Progress readers opened their pocketbooks and generously gave to make sure 40 Rogers County children get to attend the Salvation Army summer camp this week.
“We appreciate the outflow of support by our readers to help Rogers County children attend camp,” said Randy Cowling, Progress managing editor. “Our readers will make this summer very special for these 40 boys and girls.”
Donations on Friday helped Share the Spirit’s Send a Kid to Camp program reach its goal of $7,400.
On Monday, the children will board charter buses to Heart o’the Hills near Tahlequah where they will spend the week broadening their horizons and making new friends. Boys will attend one week and girls will attend the other week.
Recent donors include Donald and Sherry Rickard, Irene Ward, John and Bobbie Cary, Carol and Joe Henderson, Roger and Sue Kelley, Holiday Hills Homemakers, and Oklahoma Galvanizing.
The Progress plans to share with readers activities from the children’s trip to camp in an upcoming issue, according to Cowling.
