May 5, 2009 — County Commissioners appointed Ted Van Curen to the Rogers County Excise Equalization Board to fill the position recently vacated by Billy Quinton.

Van Curen has lived in the Owasso area since 1965. He grew up in Oologah where both his parents were teachers. He taught and coached at Owasso then went into administration serving as junior high principal for a number of years before retiring.

Van Curen’s family remains in the area, including one son who recently moved into the newly developed Stone Canyon addition.

Van Curen was approved unanimously for the appointment.

Commissioners also approved a $500 transfer of funds from the Excise/Equalization Board salaries account to the travel account in order to pay for mandatory schooling excise board members are required to attend. As a former school administrator, Van Curen will have prior experience with budgeting.

Commissioners accepted Quinton’s resignation last week, but tabled the appointment of his replacement as they sought out a qualified candidate.

With the fiscal year drawing to a close June 30, a new county budget will soon come before the Excise Board for approval.
