Fire claims home, dog

By Krystal J. Carman

March 13, 2009 — An early Wednesday morning fire that destroyed a family’s home, three vehicles and a boat also killed the family dog.

Firefighters from Tri-District, Tiawah and Foyil fire departments arrived on scene at 17674 S. 4230 Road, also known as Skull Hill Road, around 4 a.m. and found the Foster residence fully engulfed in flames.

According to officials, a family of four — a man and woman and their two children, a son and daughter — escaped the home unharmed, but the family’s dog died in the blaze.

Apparently the daughter woke up to use the restroom on the second floor of the home when she noticed flames coming from the first floor where the garage was located. Officials say the family’s dog was sleeping in the garage where an electric heater was being used. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
