Murphy challenges Rotarians to be great

CLAREMORE — “Will you be great? Will you decide to bring you’re a-game everyday? Let’s choose to be really great,” Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner Dana Murphy challenged Claremore Rotarians Tuesday during the group’s first luncheon of 2012.

Murphy, who was elected in 2008, gave an overview of what the Oklahoma Corporation Commission’s areas of oversight.

She lauded Claremore’s Pelco Structural and Clean Line Energy Partners for their efforts to bring wind power from Oklahoma’s panhandle to Memphis.

“I look forward to Clean Line being really successful. I am thankful for Pelco. This will be a success story for Oklahoma.”

Clean Line Energy Partners of Houston, Texas has joined with Pelco to build a transmission line over 800 miles to take wind power to the Tennessee Valley Authority.

“Your are going to see Oklahoma as a leader,” Murphy said of transmitting wind power.

Murphy praised Phil Teel of Clean Line and Phil Albert of Pelco for their leadership.

Murphy said the order recognizing Clean Line, as a public utility in Oklahoma is “one of the best written” by the commission.

It takes an antiquated state statutes defining what a utility is and gives it a new meaning, Murphy said.

She praised Clean Line for their efforts to reach out to landowners, royalty holders, the oil and gas industry and areas where the lines will cross.

“They (Clean Line) went out to the people and explained things,” Murphy said. Clean Line’s proactive approach is not something the commissioner has seen by other public utilities.
