Rogers County students nabbed in drug search
January 27, 2010 — Eight middle school students and one high school student were charged last week in connection with possession of marijuana on school property in Oologah.
Oologah Police Chief Novale Thompson said with the assistance of the Owasso Police Department drug dog, seven middle schoolers and one high schooler were found with marijuana “residue” on their person and one middle schooler was found to be under the influence.
“None of the students had a measurable amount of marijuana on them,” Thompson said. “They had residue, like seeds, in their coat pockets and the dog hit on them. One student had paraphernalia.”
The eight middle schoolers include one 13-year-old and seven 14-year-olds who were arrested and then released to their parents last Tuesday. The teens were also suspended from Oologah-Talala School. Now, it will be up to the District Attorney and the Office of Juvenile Affairs to determine the fate of these teens.
Use of the drug dog comes through a mutual aid agreement between the Oologah and Owasso police departments.
“Periodically they come through with the dog to do searches,” Thompson said. “We search in classrooms and that’s what we did this time and the dog hit on these kids.”
