Tuesday Feb. 9, 2010 — Two Kansas City men were arrested late last week after being reported as suspicious persons near railroad tracks on U.S. 169 in Rogers County.
Michael J. Moore, 37, and David J. Jischke, 32, were arrested after a maintenance worker for the Union Pacific Railroad noticed the men on Thursday.
According to reports from the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office, the men were carrying three rolls of copper wire but when deputies arrived to assess the situation, they noticed the wire was a material known as “copper-clad,” a steel mesh coated with copper. Investigators determined the overall value of the copper-clad was around $75. Copper-clad is often stolen because thieves believe the steel mesh and copper combo is valuable.
While on scene at U.S. 169 and County Road 300, deputies investigated further and discovered property reportedly stolen from a railroad property on Wednesday evening in Tulsa County. Approximately $3,500 in goods was reported stolen from the B.N.S.F. railway location in Tulsa County.
Jischke was released after posting a $5,500 bond and Moore is being housed in the Rogers County Jail.
