Middle school students to help Haiti

Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010 — Central Upper Elementary School is hosting a penny drive for the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Principal Kari Forest said she thought this would be a meaningful way for her students to learn about charitable giving.

“I told the kids we are not doing a class competition to see who brings the most so we can ‘win’ something. I want them to give from their heart, because those people need our help.”

A 5 gallon jug is outside the principal’s office and the goal is to fill it by Feb. 12.

All proceeds are going to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund.
