UPDATE - Oologah Saturday vaccination clinic cancelled

CLAREMORE — Rogers County officials announced Friday that the scheduled meningococcal vaccination clinic scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled.

The clinic was scheduled for today and Saturday at Oologah-Talala Lower Elementary gymnasium to administer the meningococcal vaccine to students and parents. As of 1 p.m. today, approximately 300 vaccinations had been administered.

Today's clinic was set to close at 7 p.m., but because of tomorrow's cancellation, the clinic will stay open until 10 p.m.

Saturday's clinic was cancelled because of forecasted snow which is said to be moving into the area.

Children who previously received antibiotics for meningitis prevention in the past week are still encouraged to be vaccinated. The antibiotics administered to the students, staff and close contacts of those infected was to prevent the spread of the disease.

Seven Oologah-Talala students were diagnosed with meningitis and two of those students died as a result.

Saturday's clinic, according to officials, will be rescheduled for next week.

Dr. Sam Stauffer's office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday next week to administer vaccines to any Oologah or Talala residents who missed the clinics held at the lower elementary.
