Students display Will Rogers art

CLAREMORE — Original two and three-dimensional art works and essays relating to Will Rogers are showing now at Will Rogers Memorial Museum in the Vista Room.

Three Claremont fifth grade classes had the opportunity to participate and compete in the art and essay contest. It will culminate with a public showing and awards presentation at 6 p.m. on  Thursday.
Jennifer Holt, Museum curator, said Sherrill Daniel, retired Claremore band educator and admissions desk staff member, helped coordinate the program which included a visit to the Museum.
Andy Hogan, Will Rogers interpreter and Museum historical tour guide, and retired Claremont principal, talked with the youngsters and explained the contest. They were able to do their own research and take inspiration from the Claremore Museum or Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch, as well as outside resources.
One of the two-dimensional works in the competition is original photos taken in the Museum.
Holt said a three-judge panel will select first, second a third places to receive ribbons.
There will also be a “staff favorite” and “visitor favorite.” Ballots are placed near the displays, which are showing now through Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013. Votes will be tallied  after noon on Tuesday, Dec. 11.
“I think it’s great,” Holt said, “we hope to make it an annual event.”
