ROGERS COUNTY — Rogers County Sheriff’s officers and the Owasso Police Department seeking a suspect believed involved in a hit and run in westernmost Rogers County.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies were called to assist Owasso Police in setting up a search perimeter for the on-foot suspect “around” an area overlapping jurisdictions of law officers for Owasso and Rogers County, according to Rogers County Sheriff’s Deputy Jerry Smittle.
Reports were received that a white male had been involved in a vehicular hit-and-run in the vicinity of 177th East Avenue and 76th Street North, Smittle said.
After being followed by a civilian car, the suspect realized he was being chased, pulled over roughly a mile north of the area where the incident occurred, “got out of the car with a child, ditched both the car and the child and ran,” Smittle said.
The child was unharmed, but officers are currently searching for a suspect described as a white male, wearing a gray shirt and pants, possibly a sweatshirt and sweatpants and a black hat.
Persons with information regarding the incident or who spot the suspect are encouraged to contact the Owasso Police Department Tip Line at (918) 272-COPS (2677) or the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at (918) 341-3620.
