December 9, 2009 — Liggitt contributes to great quality of life

Dear Editor,

In this season of giving and God's good will it isn't much but we want to ask you and like minded members of our community to join with us in extending accolades to Lonnie Liggitt for all that he has contributed and continues to contribute to the quality of life in our community.

If you were privileged, as we were, to attend the presentation of the Messiah last Saturday evening in the Robson Performing Arts Center you and the hundreds who joined you were privileged to enjoy a presentation of Handel's great work seldom matched in spirit.

A short program of selected works presented at the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday was equally as inspiring.

When those two performances are coupled with the myriad of musical activities presented in our community over the past twelve months where Lonnie Liggitt was always actively present, the scope and quality of the gift that he has presented to us is truly exceptional.

He is a treasure in our midst and we are exceedingly well blessed to have him with us.

Thanks for a fantastic Christmas Parade

Dear Editor,

We want to thank the people of Claremore for their support of the food drive during the Claremore Christmas Parade. We received a trailer full of food and would like to see this become an annual event. We would like to collect more food next year. All this food goes to the people of Rogers County so this makes a great event for Claremore residents to know we are helping our neighbors.

Special thanks to the Claremore Progress for promoting, The Chamber for organizing, The Sequoyah Junior High Student Council for walking the parade route and picking up the food and Warehouse Market for their contant support of our food pantry.

The Good Samaritan Ministry is open year around and supported by the Southern Baptist Churches in the area. Our hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 10-2. Donations can be dropped off at the ministry during those hours.

Again, Thank you Claremore for your generousity.

    As a lifelong Oklahoma resident, I feel the need to write concerning the approval process of the Keystone XL Pipeline project. As I am sure you are aware this project is awaiting a Presidential permit for the pipeline to cross the U.S./Canada border.

  • Floral arrangement missing from Woodlawn Cemetery

    Dear Editor,
    On Tuesday, Aug. 16, my son and I went to Woodlawn Cemetery to place a floral arrangement on my husband’s grave to commemorate the second anniversary of his passing.
    We placed the saddle arrangement on his headstone shortly before 2 p.m.

  • Duty and rest rules for commercial pilots delayed

    Dear Editor,
    I’ve read, with interest, Andy Pasztor’s r article in the 02 August edition of the WSJ on the latest delay in the publication of a final rule to update the decades-old duty and rest rules for most commercial flight operations. It has to be a great challenge to take a complex technical issue and reduce it to understandable terms for a general readership.

    The Claremore Progress recently alleged an executive session held by the trustees of the Claremore Public Works Authority (CPWA) was unlawful.  The purpose of the executive session was to confer on matters pertaining to economic development and the creation of a proposal to entice a business to locate to the city.
