January 22, 2010 — Make life better for non-human friends
Dear Editor,
I want to make a plea to everyone who has animals. No matter what circumstances you find yourself in, please do not abuse, neglect or abandon your animals!
I have seen, and often helped, these innocent animals who are like helpless children. They are just thrown out to the elements. They do not deserve this!
We humans have much potential for good and we can help these critters who look to us for help, love and attention. Some pets just get out of their yard. If they have tags then call the owner or vet listed on the tag.
You can also put a sign in your front yard that you found a “lost dog” in case the owner is nearby. When you find a lost animal always offer food and water.
We can all help these animals by first taking care of and loving the animals we have. Spaying or neutering, any who are not already, is very helpful.
If you cannot keep your pets because of tough economic times, then please find a good home starting with people you know. There are also rescue agencies who can adopt them out. The Claremore Daily Progress will run an ad, for free, for three days if you have found a lost animal.
Local vets advertise lost animals and often know of pets to be given away. The Rogers County Humane Society adopts cats and dogs, at Atwoods, one Saturday each month.
If you rescue an animal of the wild variety, then call Wild Heart Ranch at 918-342-9453. They take abandoned or injured wildlife. It is a great place for recovery and release back into their natural program called SAEF (Shelter Animal Emergency Fund). This covers minor medical costs for homeless animals. Citizens share generously to help Will Rogers Library
Dear Editor,
The membershipf of Friends of the Will Rogers Library would like to thank the members of the community and the surrounding area for helping us have a very successful 2009 endowment fundraiser.
The response to our letter campaign in November and December was wonderful.
In spite of the difficult economic timnes we are all experiencing, Claremore and Rogers County citizens have expressed their generosity once again and shown their concern that Will Rogers Library will have the funding necessary now and in future years to help with additional needs caused by the ever-increasing use of our library.
