Sigma Chi ESA, Inola, hosts Hope for Heroes honoring veterans and soldiers, 2 p.m., at Inola High School football stadium. Special speakers, displays music and performances. Blue Star Mothers will collect items for troop care packages. Names of veterans are being compiled for the recognition. Send information to Inolahopeforheros@gmail.com.
The Tulsa Community Band joins the Claremore High School Band to present a patriotic concert honoring past and present military personnel, 3 p.m., at Robson Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and may be purchased at the door. Proceeds benefit the Zebra Band program.
MONDAY (Nov. 9)
Pat Heidlage Gymnasium dedication at Westside Elementary, 6-6:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the dedication and dessert prior to the monthly Claremore Board of Education meeting.
Will Rogers Library genealogy volunteers are available each Monday from 5-7 p.m. to answer questions and assist with research.
New cancer support group begins meeting, 6-7 p.m., at Emmanuel Baptist Church fellowship hall, 828 S. Muskogee St. Group will meet the second Monday of each month. Information: Florence, 829-2963.
Claremore Indian Hospital now has the H1N1 (swine flu) influenza vaccine available to Native Americans, 6 months to 64 years of age. A walk-in clinic will be held Nov. 9, 10, 12 and 14, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m., and Nov. 11, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Located in the east hallway, past Pharmacy.
TUESDAY (Nov. 10)
Claremore Band Boosters Association will have a free food handler class presented by the Rogers County Health Department at 6 p.m., in the band room. Short business meeting will follow.
Claremore Public School Indian Parent Committee meeting, 4 p.m., at Claremont Elementary School Library. Positions on the committee need to be filled. Anyone with a Native American student attending Claremore schools is welcome to attend. Information: Cindy Sullivan, 341-0273.
College Hill Toastmasters meeting, 7-8 p.m. at Northeast Technology Center, Claremore. Open to public. Public speaking and leadership learning opportunities.
WEDNESDAY (Nov. 11)
Pelivan Transit closed in observance of Veterans Day. Business resumes Thursday.
The women of Foyil United Methodist Church host their monthly dinner, beginning at 11 a.m. This month’s menu is Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings for $7. Veterans eat free. They will also have a bake sale.
Claremore Veterans Day Parade, 11 a.m. (line up at 10), starting at Expo Center. Parade will end at Lynn Riggs Gazebo Park with a flag retirement ceremony.
Annual Veterans Day Ceremony, 2 p.m., at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens Veteran’s Field of Honor Circle, 801 Normal Ave., Claremore.
