February 5, 2010 — FRIDAY (Feb. 5)

Central Upper Elementary (CUE) Winter Festival, 6-8 p.m., in the CUE Gym (entrance from the north side). Family fun event with games, food, silent auction, raffle, and more. Tickets are 25 cents each for games.

Claremore Veterans Center Monthly Memorial Service, 10 a.m., in the chapel.

Rogers County Conservation District has funds available for cost-share assistance on selected conservation practices benefiting soil and water conservation. Applications accepted through Feb. 19. For a list of eligible conservation practices, call 341-4147.

Indoor sale to benefit the Department of Human Services’ Totally Teen Christmas Program will be March 6 at Claremore Community Center. Reservations for vendor tables ($20) must be made by Friday, Feb. 19. Call Angie Graves, 637-1055.

SATURDAY (Feb. 6)

“Brainiac Brawl” to benefit Claremore Public Schools Foundation, RSU Centennial Center. Doors open at 6 p.m., competition begins 7 p.m. Advance ticket purchase required. Verdigris Fire Fighters Association Chili Supper & Dessert Auction, 4:30-8 p.m., at Verdigris Elementary School. Admission, $5 for adults, $3 for 3-12 year olds, and free to two and under. All you can eat chili, raffle, and more.

MONDAY (Feb. 8)

Will Rogers Library genealogy volunteers are available each Monday from 5-7 p.m. to answer questions and assist with research. In addition, on Feb. 8 and 22 from 4-5 p.m. Farrell Mackey Prater and Dolores Ward Johnson will present a seminar on Native American history, Five Civilized Tribes, and Cherokee and Freemen Tribal members.

Mustard Seed Christian Learning Center book fair continues through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-noon daily, in the gym at 5th and Florence. Goal for the fundraiser is $1800 for scholarships, books, and a new playground. If the goal is reached, Mustard Seed Director Mary Jo Masterson will color her hair green and read Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham to students.

The women of Foyil United Methodist Church host their monthly dinner, beginning at 11 a.m. Menu includes the choice of fried chicken or meat loaf and side items for $7.

Third Annual Benefit Barrel Race for Brandi Ann Battenfield Memorial, King’s Pen Arena/Cowboy Gatherin’, 4240 Road and 412 Highway in Inola. Inola Basketball Homecoming and Cancer Awareness Kickoff. The girls teams (Inola and Sequoyah) will wear bright pink T-shirts and shoe laces. Raffles of gift baskets, gift cards and a pink ribbon blanket will benefit the Northeast Oklahoma Cancer Center in Claremore. Donations will also be accepted.

Deadline for donations to the “Haitian Relief Kits.” Items needed include bar soap, shampoo, laundry soap, sanitary pads, fingernail clippers, adhesive bandages, and more. Drop-off points are Rogers County Sheriff’s Office, 1st Baptist Church and Unrau’s Locker in Inola, Kroeker’s Family Medical in Chouteau, and The Book Exchange in Pryor.
