RSU student Republicans host Mullin

CLAREMORE — RSU College Republicans met for their weekly meeting Monday evening at Centennial Center with Markwayne Mullin, Republican candidate for Oklahoma’s 2nd Congressional District, speaking.

Mullin addressed the group and opened the floor to questions.

When asked what would be the first thing he would do if elected, Mullin answered he would fight against the healthcare system being proposed nationwide.

“Oklahoma, with 90 percent of employers being small businesses, will be hardest hit.”

Mullin said the second thing he would do is fight against any new regulations being mandated to businesses.

Another student inquired what would happen with Mullin Plumbing when elected. “I have a leadership team in place, all of whom I’ve worked with for at least eight years.”

Rogers County makes up 18.3 percent of the primary vote for the 2nd Congressional District, according to Mullin. With a campaign office in Claremore, he encouraged anyone wishing to get involved to volunteer their time. “I will not ask anything of you that I’m not willing to do.”

Although the crowd was small, Mullin was encouraged saying with networking his message would be heard by many more.

The four original members of RSU College Republicans, Kadie James, Josh Clemishire, Bryce Hall, and Lakyn Kibby, began meeting on Oct. 13, 2011. Only four months later the group has grown to 18 members.

Dustin Rowe, another Republican candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, is scheduled to speak at the March 26 meeting. Plans are being finalized for Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton and Republican sheriff candidate Cole Butler to be guest speakers at future meetings.

The group will be participating in the PETA Barbecue held at RSU on April 5.
