County E911 over budget
The Rogers County Commissioners approved bids Monday for the construction of the new E911 Center.
Originally, the project was proposed at the cost of $1.6 million, however the bid package now totals $1.8 million.
The commissioners will be paying approximately $260,000 of that cost and will be doing site work to save money.
Commissioner Mike Helm questioned the board as to the source of the extra funds.
Commissioner Dan DeLozier said the $260,000 will be paid from the E911 cash account that is designated for equipment purchases.
There is approximately $800,000 in that account at this time.
The courthouse project is running under budget and any left over funds will be dedicated to the E911 Center, according DeLozier.
Helm asked if the City of Claremore has opted to join the new E911 Center.
E911 Director Janet Hamilton responded not at this time. However, she feels they will after the center is up and running.
Helm then posed a question to Assistant District Attorney David Iski asking if the county could request the City to pay for part of the additional expenses.
Can the county take back some of the E911 funds that the city currently receives, Helm asked.
Iski said that the board could review the document in which that splits the E911 funds.
Hamilton quickly cautioned the board, explaining that if they reviewed the document they will find that it is based on a lower population than what currently exists in the city.
“If we lose this argument we can lose additional funding,” Hamilton said.
No action was taken on the matter. In other business, the commissioners voted to select Riggs, Abney, Neil, Turpen, Orbison and Lewis Inc. to serve as legal council for the E911 Trust Authority.
