City kicks off annual Toys for Tots campaign

CLAREMORE — Christmas is a time for celebration. 

Many children are less fortunate and the joy of a gift brings a beam of light into a difficult situation.
Toys for Tots has been working with many local companies, organizations and individuals for years to bring that joy to children in Mayes and Rogers County.
This year is no exception as the annual Toys for Tots campaign has begun. 
“Last year was very successful, with almost 10,000 toys given to more than 1,400 children from 600 families,” Dales Marsh said.
Marsh, a retired Marine, has been working with the organization locally for many years.
“Our hope is to get toys to as many children as possible who might otherwise not have any for Christmas,” Marsh said. “How can you help, Toys for Tots boxes are located in many store locations throughout Rogers and Mayes Counties.”
The upcoming Christmas Parade on Dec. 8 will feature a donation drop at the NeMar Center Christmas tree.
Anyone that wishes to donate a new, unwrapped toy can drop it off before or after the parade, according to Marsh.
The toys should be placed in the Toys for Tots signature boxes that will be located by the tree.
The toys will be given to parents of children that show documentation proving they are receiving assistance of some kind. A Medicaid card, Food Stamps letter, Sooner Care card, WIC voucher or a letter for school reduced lunches will be accepted. 
The distribution of toys will be at the Claremore VFW post located at 1717 W. Dupont from noon to 4 p.m. on Dec. 14. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 15 and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 16.
