Citizens to weigh in on rail crossing

CLAREMORE — Rogers County Commissioner Dan DeLozier will host an informational public meeting from 6:45 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 6 at the Claremore Community Building located at 2301 N. Sioux in Claremore.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide citizens an opportunity to voice their opinion and concerns about the possibility of closing the railroad-grade crossing located at South 4170 Road.
If the intersection is closed it will be used as part of a proposal to stage trains outside the City of Claremore.
The plan is to add a track to be used as a siding from Akin Road to North Frisco Road, with this closure it would prevent trains from blocking any intersections when parked in the area, according to BNSF representative Kamie Minor.
Currently, BNSF officials are in the planning stage only and have not finalized the proposal.
The meeting is strictly informational and no formal decision to close the grade crossing has been made at this time, according to District 1 officials.
BNSF Railway Company has expansion plans that include construction of an additional track adjacent to the existing mainline track from E450 Road to S4160 (Briscoe Road). The S4170 Road grade crossing is proposed as a closure to facilitate the staging of a train on the proposed track between road crossings.
The meeting will help officials obtain comments on the proposed project from individuals, and surrounding business owners on the possible closure.
BNSF officials will present a short proposal followed by an informal open discussion. Rogers County representatives will be present to receive comments and answer individual questions.
This public informational meeting is part of the continuing efforts by the BNSF Railway to emphasize grade crossing safety and the intended Railroad construction plans in the area.
Additionally, a preliminary review has been prepared which assesses the impact of the proposed S4170 Road grade crossing closure on the traffic routes and necessary improvements to the intersection of E450 Road and S4170 Road.
Individuals that may submit comments or questions in writing to Commissioner Dan DeLozier at Rogers County District #1, 1201 S. Maple, Chelsea, OK. 74016, by email at District1@rogerscounty.org or contact his office by phone at (918) 789-2279.
