Aug. 14, 2009 — Persons who follow the City of Claremore on the micro-blogging service Twitter do so to keep up on the activities of the Rogers County municipality.
But this month, those following Claremore via Twitter could find themselves with a ticket to ride back to the age of Aquarius with the city’s ongoing #1 Hits of the 60’s” contest.
“We wanted to make a pair of complimentary tickets available to someone, and thought a contest for them would be a creative means to do so,” said Cassie Sowers, City of Claremore public relations director. “So, we’ll be giving two complimentary tickets to this month’s “#1 Hits of the 60’s” show to one person who has signed up to follow us (on Twitter) by Aug. 19th.”
“#1 Hits of the 60’s,” to perform at the Claremore Expo Center on Friday, Aug. 21, is a Branson-based performance troupe which celebrates the music and good vibrations of the 60’s with an award-winning presentation of music, dance, comedy, trivia and unique video segments.
“We hope that by having the #1 Hits of the 60's show come to the Expo so soon after the FireHouse concert, we will be reaching two very opposite demographics, hopefully giving everyone in Claremore something to enjoy,” Sowers said.
Musical selections from every the period — including the Beatles, Beach Boys, Ray Charles, Petula Clark, Four Seasons, Roy Orbison, Sonny & Cher, Supremes, Temptations, and many more — will be performed live.
“This isn’t a concert, but a full-on, Branson-style show,” Sowers aid. “In addition to all the music and dance crazes of the 1960s, #1 Hits of the 60s uses period costuming and, of course, the famous 60s hairdos to take audience members back,” said Sowers. “Guests will get to travel with the cast from the jukebox soda shop to the drive-in theater, complete with an assortment of jazzed-up cars.”
The family-friendly show will be 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21 at the Claremore Expo Center, 400 Veterans Parkway. Seating will be largely general admission with a limited number of reserved seats.
Tickets are available online at www.gettix.net, by phone at 1-866-443-8849, at any Reasor's location, or available for purchase at the Expo Center box office the day of the show.
