December 12, 2009 — Most people in the Claremore area think of Congressman Dan Boren as the congressman for Rogers County, but many don’t realize that the western part of Rogers County is represented by Congressman John Sullivan, a Republican from Tulsa.
Recently while on a trip for a client to Washington, DC, I sat by Congressman Sullivan on the plane and spent time with him during the change of planes in Chicago.
Reacquainting myself with my former legislative colleague, I was impressed by both his knowledge and interest in what was going on in Rogers County.
He peppered me with questions about his old friend Larry Rice and how things were at RSU and what he could do to help.
He expressed interest in helping with continuing the four-laning of Highway 20 from that portion of his district into Claremore where it would meet Congressman Boren’s district. And he asked about the status of solving Claremore’s train problem.
Congressman Sullivan even agreed to a request by my legal colleague, Clint Russell, an Inola school board member, to address the Inola graduating class as commencement speaker sometime in the future.
The Congressman’s energy and interest in all of Rogers County was an indicator of why he continues to handily get reelected.
He’s obviously involved, knowledgeable, and maintains the same energy he did when I first met him when he was a young member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
