BENCH SITTIN' — Pixley family honored for past, present and future

By Randy Cowling, Managing Editor

November 3, 2009 — Claremore schools would not be the same without the Pixley family. F. Warren and Patricia A., Paul A., Mary A. Pixley Warren, Ruth V. Pixley Stone, John D. Pixley and Joseph Pixley were recently honored with induction to the Public Schools Foundation Eighth Hall of Fame.

During a dinner and roast friends shared memorable stories of how each of the family has shaped Claremore and its educational system.

Without their contributions Claremore’s schools might look a bit different.

Father Paul Eichhoff of St. Cecilia Catholic Church characterized them as an “All-American family.”

If anyone were to ask, they would dismiss any special status. They would humbly say the just participated and supported the community and its school system. That humility is why the Pixleys have had such an impact on Claremore. As valued, contributing members of our community the Pixleys’ efforts are visible and lasting.

Warren helped make sure the land where the Claremore Regional Hospital wasn’t sold, but secured so the hospital could be built there. Pat helped begin the Meals On Wheels program and is a charter member of the Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. She continues works at the hospital with the auxiliary.

Paul’s fingerprints can be found all over Legion Field, which is the best baseball facility in northeast Oklahoma.

Mary, who is a fixture at the family’s business, is who people look to when they need just the right items for their homes.

Ruth continues to teach children Westside Elementary, where she helps them learn lessons they will carry with them forever.

John and Joe have been successful in banking and technology, but serve as ambassadors of Claremore and Rogers County where ever they go.

This family has invested themselves in our community. Their induction into the Hall of Fame is a small token of appreciation for all they have given to make Claremore schools better and better.
