10 junior high and high schoolers chosen for All-State Choir

CLAREMORE — A total of 10 Claremore junior high and high school students were chosen this year to participate in Oklahoma’s All-State Choir program.

Choir members were selected by a group of music educators after an audition during the state quadrant round in Broken Arrow. The All-State team is made up of 20 seats for each voice category.
“To be selected for all-state is extremely difficult,” said Claremore Choir Director Ruiel Doonkeen. “Students have to give up free time for many hours of practice to prepare for the audition process.”
Claremore High School is among the many big schools with a large participation in this type of program. Participants have to learn four songs and audition twice in front of interviewees and state judges.
“There is a large amount of preparation that goes into this but the reward is worth it,” he said. “The auditions can help students improve their interviewing skills for college and job positions.
Doonkeen said each one of the Claremore students are very talented and extremely gifted musicians.
“I am proud of all of them.”
The Claremore High School Choir will present a Christmas concert entitled “Joy to the World” at 7 p.m., Dec. 18 in the Robson Performing Arts Center.
Choir members will be performing Christmas music from all over the world. Entry is free to the public.
