CLAREMORE —
The Claremore Symphony League is brining classical music to Claremore by developing a love for music one child at a time.
Endorsed by the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra and supported through charitable donations the organization provides many services to our local community.
Claremore Symphony League members provide Rogers County students an opportunity to attend multiple orchestra performances each year at the Robson Performing Arts Center, in Claremore and supports music education programs.
“Claremore has been so supportive. It is really important for all these students to get the opportunity to hear some of the best musicians in the Tulsa area perform,” said Kathy Rad, Educational Coordinator for the Tulsa Symphony. Recently the Claremore Symphony League sponsored a performance of the Tulsa Honors Orchestra in a program titled “Bach to Rock”.
Featuring music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic Era and modern music the program was performed by students, ages seven thru 18.
Playing string instruments like the violin, viola, cello or bass, the Tulsa Honors Orchestra is composed of musicians, many of which have been playing from a very young age.
One student in particular, soloist, Emma Pendleton, has been playing violin since she was two. The award-winning violinist has performed professionally with musicians like Garth Brooks and Toby Keith.
Pendleton is just one example of the impact playing music can make in a child’s life.
The Claremore Symphony League also sponsors the Student Strings Program in cooperation with Claremore Public Schools. The program is offered to area elementary aged children and classes are held weekly at Stuart Roosa Elementary, 2001 N. Sioux in Claremore. The program is open to public, private or homeschooled students. Participating students will get the opportunity to learn how to play a string instrument and read music.
Each year the Claremore Symphony League sponsors scholarships for students to attend the Strings Program. Annual fundraisers and membership dues help to fund these projects and much more. Students may join the program at anytime and more information is available by contacting Kathy Rad at Kathy@tulsasymphony.org.
Annual fundraisers, donations and membership dues help to fund these projects and much more. Just one goal of the Claremore Symphony League is to bring opportunities to local students.
The organization is relatively new and is looking to gain additional community support. Organizers are working on future plans to support Claremore’s own youth orchestra. More information is available at www.claremoresymphonyleague.com.
