Wells receives OHCE Member of the Year

CLAREMORE —  

The Rogers County Home and Community Education held their annual awards dinner for OHCE groups and group members Monday evening at Claremore Assembly of God church. The “Viva Italia” dinner included entertainment from Rogers County 4-H members and recognition of new members.
President Marcia Bacon presented the awards for perfect attendance, veteran members, outstanding secretary and group’s accumulated points. 
In addition, individual members received the Heart of OHCE award, Rookie Member of the Year and OHCE Member of the Year.
Oologah resident and Oowala group member Connie Wells earned the OHCE Member of the Year award, sponsored annually by the Claremore Daily Progress.
Wells lives on a farm near Oologah with her husband of 41 years and has three grown children and four grandchildren. She spends time tending to her garden and shares an abundance of produce with family, friends and OHCE groups, as they provide fresh fruits and vegetables to older adults in the Drive-By-Fruiting Project. 
Wells said she is a recycler of all sorts of items and can always be counted on to provide the “recycled item” at the Rogers County Fair.
Besides working full-time on their farm, Wells works in 4-H with her grandchildren as well as Creekside Nursery & Produce where she has her hands in the soil, planting seeds and watching over them as they grow.
“I love farm life, working with the animals, the land and my grandchildren,” she said. 
Other awards for the evening included OHCE Rogers County Rookie Member of the Year Sheila Burnett, member of Holiday Hills group and Rogers County Heart of OHCE recipient Marcia Bacon of the Oowala group.
The OHCE Small Group award went to Verdigris group and Oowala group received the Large Group award. The two awards are given annually based on accumulated points from the Home and Community Education Achievement Scorecard. 
Points are awarded on educational programs, public relations, membership, service to the organization and county fair participation.
