Christmas in July

CLAREMORE — The Claremore Elks Lodge is getting ready for the 8th annual “Christmas in July” fundraiser to benefit the Oklahoma Chapter 20 Blue Star Mothers, the newest chapter in Oklahoma, and Chapter One, the oldest chapter.

The Bllue Star Mothers of Oklahoma is a patriotic and serviceful organization for the men and women who have served and are currently serving in the armed forces.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 28 and will include hors d’ ouvers, silent and live auctions, keynote speaker Vietnam Marine Veteran Eddie Beesley, and musical entertainment by Double H Karaoke.

The items available for auction are OU and OSU baskets and autographed items, gas grill, patio set, several golf outings including Patriot Golf Club, dining, entertainment, St. Lous Cardinals and Kansas City Royal tickets, Dallas Cowboys Stadium tours and more. 

All proceeds raised willl be donated to the Blue Star Mothers to assist in the shipping of Freedom Boxes to our troops overseas.  The Freedom Boxes contain much needed items such as toiletries, individually wrapped candies and snacks, note cards and small games.

“The Claremore Elks would like to thank their sponsors, Image Health Services and the Oklahoma Elks Association, as well as our many local merchants who donated auction items, said “Christmas In July” Chairperson Carina Mullen.

Tickets for the public event are available for $10, doors open at 5:30 and the program starts at 6:30.  For reservations, contact the Elks Lodge (918) 341-0850 or Carina Mullen (918) 636-8212.

Anyone not able to attend, who wants to help in sending Freedom Boxes, can contact the local chapter of Blue Star Mothers.

    The Rogers County Blue Star Mothers chapter will sell Memorial Day flowers today,  through Sunday to help raise money for troops. Flowers and sprays will be sold from 4-6 p.m.  today, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday on the corner of First and Lynn Riggs, across from the old courthouse.
