City Council to vote on triathlon

CLAREMORE —  

The Claremore Parks and Recreation Department is seeking the approval of the city council to host a triathlon at Claremore Lake.
The event would be the first triathlon to occur in Claremore in more than 25 years.
The event will be sponsored by the city of Claremore and organized by Fleet Feet in Tulsa.
Recent additions to the city’s trail system will help make the event feasible, according to Director Joe Kays.
A small beach will be constructed if the council approves the event and will be used for the 750-meter swim.
Escort paddleboats, safety rescue boats, lifeguards and EMT’s will be needed to provide support for the race.
Police and sheriff’s deputies will provide bike and run safety, according to the proposal.
Sag vehicles and aid stations will be placed throughout the course.
In addition to the swim, participants will run a 5k and bike 20 km. 
The event will be a sanctioned race and could be considered to be an “Iron Man” classified event.
“This event could open the city up to many more opportunities,” Kays said.
The city will also receive revenue from the event, he said.
