Chaussard to lead Red Cross' Heroes campaign

CLAREMORE — David Chaussard, CEO, Claremore Regional Hospital, has been selected to be the Chairman for the 2012 “HEROES for the American Red Cross” Campaign.  The campaign will take place in Rogers County throughout the month of March, which is American Red Cross Month.  The campaign goal is $30,000.

The “HEROES for the American Red Cross” campaign is  a grassroots effort that involves caring and dedicated people, businesses, schools, churches and community organizations who each agree to become a Hero to support the local work of the American Red Cross.  Each Hero volunteers to raise $1,000 or more through anyway they choose. All money raised locally will stay local to help those suffering after a disaster.

“I am proud to have been asked to Chair this year’s “HEROES for the American Red Cross” campaign,” said David Chaussard.  “The funds we raise during this campaign are absolutely critical in making sure the Red Cross remains strong, prepared and ready to respond at a moment’s notice when our community and our neighbors are in need.  I invite everyone, whether it be individuals, businesses, community group, churches or schools to join in as a Hero and make this the most successful campaign ever.”

In 2011, the local American Red Cross responded to near back-to-back disasters: an historic blizzard, tornadoes, wildfires fueled by record-setting heat, damaging floods and home fires.  In the Rogers/Mayes/Wagoner County Service Center service area that included 98 home fires (an increase of 18 over the previous year) and provided more than $56,100 in financial disaster assistance to help with immediate needs such as temporary lodging, food and clothing.

“We are very pleased that David Chaussard will be this year’s “HEROES for the American Red Cross” campaign chair,” said Mark Ogle, director, Rogers/Mayes/Wagoner County Service Center.  “He is a natural choice for campaign chair given his and Claremore Regional Hospital’s long time support of the Red Cross.  He is a past member of the Rogers/Mayes/Wagoner County Service Center board of directors, serving two terms as board chair.

The American Red Cross was founded in 1881 as a humanitarian organization with the intent to provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.  The Red Cross provides emergency disaster services; services to armed forces; health and safety training; community disaster education; volunteer services and blood services.  In Oklahoma, the Indian Territory Branch of the American Red Cross was established in 1906, later evolving into the present day Tulsa Regional Chapter.

To sign up to be a Hero is easy, just call David Chaussard at (918) 342-6705 or Mark Ogle at (918) 344-8442 or e-mail markogle@okredcross.org and let them know to count you in.

To mail a financial donation anytime, please make checks payable to the American Red Cross and mail them to the American Red Cross, 400 W. Will Rogers Blvd., Claremore, Oklahoma 74017.
